Abstract
A percepção ambiental está ligada ao contexto social, e entendê-la é fundamental para criar programas
educativos e iniciativas de Educação Ambiental (EA) que atendam às demandas e realidades
socioculturais do público-alvo, ajudando na preservação do meio ambiente. A EA é essencial na busca
por soluções para questões ambientais, especialmente no Ensino Superior, ao fomentar a conscientização
ecológica, a ética ambiental e a geração de conhecimentos e tecnologias voltadas para o enfrentamento
desses problemas. Nesse sentido, percepção ambiental e EA configuram dimensões inter-relacionadas,
que se influenciam mutuamente, o que reforça a relevância de sua análise no contexto universitário. O
objetivo geral desta pesquisa consiste em compreender como os estudantes da Universidade Federal do
Cariri (UFCA), Campus Crato, percebem as questões ambientais, bem como sua compreensão acerca
do conceito de desenvolvimento sustentável, além de seus valores, atitudes e práticas ambientalmente
responsáveis. Como objetivos específicos, estabeleceram-se: (1) identificar o tratamento institucional
conferido pela UFCA às questões ambientais e à sustentabilidade; (2) verificar a compreensão dos
estudantes quanto ao conceito de desenvolvimento sustentável, aos Objetivos de Desenvolvimento
Sustentável (ODS) e às atividades relacionadas à sustentabilidade desenvolvidas no referido Campus e
(3) analisar a percepção discente acerca da questão ambiental. A metodologia adotada combinou
pesquisa documental de caráter exploratório-descritivo com coleta de dados primários, realizada por
meio de questionários semiestruturados aplicados a 76 estudantes, além da análise de dados secundários
referentes às ações de sustentabilidade na UFCA. A abordagem foi qualitativa, com utilização da análise
de conteúdo. Entre os principais resultados obtidos de dados secundários, destacam-se iniciativas
institucionais como coleta seletiva, logística reversa e campanhas de EA. No âmbito do CCAB, o projeto
Sementes do Amanhã promove inclusão social e educação ambiental, enquanto parcerias com a
Universidade Regional do Cariri (URCA) e o Geopark Araripe viabilizam a realização de Oficinas
Educativas Ambientais. Observou-se maior alinhamento dos projetos de extensão com os ODS 3 (Saúde
e Bem-Estar) e 4 (Educação de Qualidade). Nos projetos de pesquisa, aproximadamente 30%
apresentaram vinculação ao ODS 4, seguidos pelo ODS 3 (19,52%) e pelo ODS 9 (Indústria, Inovação
e Infraestrutura), com 16,19%, no ano de 2024. Os dados da pesquisa direta indicaram predominância
do sexo masculino na Agronomia e feminino na Medicina Veterinária e no Proder. A faixa etária
predominante foi de 21 a 25 anos em Agronomia, de 15 a 20 anos em Medicina Veterinária e de 26 a 30
anos no Proder. Quanto à renda familiar, prevaleceu a faixa de até um salário mínimo em Agronomia e
no Proder, enquanto Medicina Veterinária foi o único que apresentou percentual de renda superior a sete
salários mínimos. Verificou-se, ainda, predominância de Ensino Fundamental incompleto entre os pais
dos estudantes de Agronomia e Proder, ao passo que, em Medicina Veterinária, predominou Ensino
Superior completo entre as mães e Ensino Médio completo entre os pais. No que se refere aos meios de
informação sobre ações de sustentabilidade, destacaram-se a página institucional da UFCA, no Proder e
em Medicina Veterinária, e os canais vinculados ao CCAB, em Agronomia. A Agenda 2030 e os ODS
são conhecidos por 100% dos estudantes do Proder, 82,14% em Agronomia e 77,42% em Medicina
Veterinária. Os ODS mais mencionados foram o ODS 3 e o ODS 2 em Medicina Veterinária; o ODS 2
em Agronomia; e os ODS 6 e 4 no Proder. Em todos os cursos, a internet e as redes sociais foram
apontadas como principais fontes de informação sobre questões ambientais. Observou-se, ainda,
predominância do uso de materiais digitais ao final do semestre no Proder, enquanto nos cursos de
graduação prevaleceu a prática do guarda tudo. Em síntese, os discentes do CCAB, Campus Crato,
demonstraram conhecimento acerca das ações de sustentabilidade desenvolvidas na universidade,
embora tenha sido identificado menor nível de conhecimento entre os estudantes de Medicina
Veterinária. De modo geral, evidenciaram-se comportamentos ambientalmente responsáveis associados
à consciência ambiental, ainda que determinados aspectos demandem aprimoramento.

Environmental perception is linked to the social context, and understanding it is fundamental to creating
educational programs and Environmental Education (EE) initiatives that meet the socio-cultural
demands and realities of the target audience, helping to preserve the environment. EE is essential in the
search for solutions to environmental issues, especially in Higher Education, by fostering ecological
awareness, environmental ethics, and the generation of knowledge and technologies aimed at addressing
these problems. In this sense, environmental perception and EE constitute interrelated dimensions that
mutually influence each other, which reinforces the relevance of their analysis in the university context.
The general objective of this research is to understand how students at the Federal University of Cariri
(UFCA), Crato Campus, perceive environmental issues, as well as their understanding of the concept of
sustainable development, in addition to their environmentally responsible values, attitudes, and
practices. Specific objectives included: (1) identifying the institutional treatment given by UFCA to
environmental issues and sustainability; (2) to verify students' understanding of the concept of
sustainable development, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and sustainability-related
activities developed on the aforementioned Campus and (3) to analyze students' perception of the
environmental issue. The methodology adopted combined exploratory-descriptive documentary
research with primary data collection, carried out through semi-structured questionnaires applied to 76
students, in addition to the analysis of secondary data related to sustainability actions at UFCA. The
approach was qualitative, using content analysis. Among the main results obtained from secondary data,
institutional initiatives such as selective collection, reverse logistics, and environmental education
campaigns stand out. Within the CCAB, the Seeds of Tomorrow project promotes social inclusion and
environmental education, while partnerships with the Regional University of Cariri (URCA) and the
Araripe Geopark enable the implementation of Environmental Education Workshops. A greater
alignment of extension projects with SDGs 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 4 (Quality Education)
was observed. In research projects, approximately 30% showed a link to SDG 4, followed by SDG 3
(19.52%) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), with 16.19%, in the year 2024. Direct
research data indicated a predominance of males in Agronomy and females in Veterinary Medicine and
Proder. The predominant age range was 21 to 25 years in Agronomy, 15 to 20 years in Veterinary
Medicine, and 26 to 30 years in Proder. Regarding family income, the range of up to one minimum wage
prevailed in Agronomy and Proder, while Veterinary Medicine was the only one that presented a
percentage of income higher than seven minimum wages. Furthermore, it was found that incomplete
primary education predominated among the parents of Agronomy and Proder students, while in
Veterinary Medicine, complete higher education predominated among mothers and complete secondary
education among fathers. Regarding sources of information on sustainability actions, the UFCA
institutional website stood out in Proder and Veterinary Medicine, and the channels linked to CCAB in
Agronomy. The 2030 Agenda and the SDGs are known by 100% of Proder students, 82.14% in
Agronomy, and 77.42% in Veterinary Medicine. The most mentioned SDGs were SDG 3 and SDG 2 in
Veterinary Medicine; SDG 2 in Agronomy; and SDGs 6 and 4 in Proder. In all courses, the internet and
social networks were identified as the main sources of information on environmental issues.
Furthermore, the use of digital materials predominated at the end of the semester in the Proder program,
while in undergraduate courses the practice of keeping everything safe prevailed. In summary, the
students of CCAB, Crato Campus, demonstrated knowledge about the sustainability actions developed
at the university, although a lower level of knowledge was identified among Veterinary Medicine
students. In general, environmentally responsible behaviors associated with environmental awareness
were evident, even though certain aspects require improvement.
